ATTENTION 2015 TRAVEL BASEBALL CANDIDATES - FALL TRYOUTS
by posted 07/28/2014

As part of our continual efforts to improve our evaluation process and to incorporate feedback from parents, coaches and volunteers, we will be conducting first round travel tryouts this Fall. This allows us to return to a multi-round tryout process, see the boys on an actual field, and utilize a proven upper/lower grouping system.

Moreover, we will be able to announce team rosters and coaches sooner this Spring which will permit:

• Extra team practice time so teams are better prepared for the start of the season

• Coaches a better idea of team strengths and weaknesses

• More time for coach development and training

• More time to identify team manager and fundraiser

• Evaluators with fewer boys to review in the second indoor round allowing for better accuracy.

• More time for equipment distribution

• Uniforms can be ordered and distributed sooner

First Round (King Park)

 All boys registering for Travel Baseball will attend the first round outdoor tryouts. Upon completion of the first round, the top 40 boys will be sent to the second round. This group of 40 boys will be divided into an upper and lower group consisting of 20 in each group.

Second (Final) Round – Saints Academy

The second round will be utilized to name the three 12 man rosters (36 boys will make Travel). As in the past, the upper group will eventually comprise the AAA/AA team rosters. The lower group will eventually comprise the AA/A rosters. The remaining boys who did not make the AAA/AA/A rosters will be encouraged to join the LBA House program.

As such, the first round of tryouts is scheduled for the week of September 15-18th. More information/reminders will follow.

Projected age groups by evening:

14’s – Monday night (9/15)

13’s – Tuesday night (9/16)

12’s – Wednesday night (9/17)

11 & 10’s – Thursday night (9/18)

Those chosen to proceed to the second round will be attending tryouts at Saints Academy (Targeted for February).

Registration will soon be open – you will only be asked to pay the $25 tryout fee. If your son is placed on a Travel team, the remainder of the fee will be paid in the Spring after team assignments.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we incorporate this change to improve your son’s over-all baseball experience!

Regards,

Glenn Parker – South Travel Director;

Dave Tobias – North Travel Director;

Russ McGill – LBA Commissioner

The Big Wiff - Wiffle Ball Tournament
by posted 07/10/2014

Be part of the second annual World’s Largest Wiffle Ball Tournament being held across Minnesota on August 16, 2014. All ages are welcome.

This tournament benefits all Minnesota Miracle Leagues, as well as helps to build other fields, so that "every child has the opportunity to play baseball."

Wiffle Ball teams of three to five people will play in a round robin tournament on Saturday, August 16 from 10:00am to 3:00pm. The crazy fun at each of the locations will include prizes for best team costumes, most money raised and, of course, tournament champions.

Saturday pool play will be at King Park in Lakeville. Championship games for the winning teams from each of the locations will be held on Sunday, August 17 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the Woodbury Miracle League location.

To register visit the official Biff Wiff website! Be sure to select South Metro Miracle League when selecting field location.

Lighting Project Sign at King Field!

The Light Up Lakeville Project reached another milestone this week. The sign showing King Field as a "Future Ball Field Lighting Project" was raised on Dodd Blvd just outside the complex. Many thanks to our partners at The City of Lakeville!

Now, just because the sign is up does not mean that our work has ended. In fact, it's just begun. We still need significant help with our fundraising efforts, including our car raffle. Please consider donating some time to assist with selling tickets. Contact Kaye Koyak-Wahl at   if you are interested.

Thank You!
