Rookie Camp is a Pre-Kindergarten baseball program that allows 4-6 year old children the chance to learn the basic fundamentals of baseball in a summer camp-like approach emphasizing fun and excitement.
Each session starts with each team going through 15 minutes of warm-up & exercises. This is followed by a 15-minute general session that discusses a particular skill or topic. Teams break out and go through 2-3 skill sessions, where the parents and players work together on specific skill areas. Each team leader is given a schedule for the day, and the players move through each of the stations according to their particular schedule. Emphasis is on having fun and learning the basic skills of hitting, fielding, throwing, running, sliding, cheering, and teamwork. After the skill sessions, the players on each team get together and have snacks.
The rookie camp coordinator is Scott Howard
Program runs on Monday nights at 6:30 from April 29- July 15th (weather dependent)
All sessions will be held at Antlers Park.
The Rookie Camp Leader will either be an experienced youth baseball coach who has volunteered to run the camps or one of the Team Leaders who has volunteered to be the Rookie Camp Leader for that week. The Rookie Camp Leader’s responsibilities is to teach the basic fundamentals of baseball, coordinate the groups as they move through the activities, and provide positive instruction and feedback to the players during the sessions.
Players are divided up into groups of 10, with at least 2 team leaders per team. The team leaders are the parents of the children. The responsibility of the team leaders is to keep the group together and organized during each of the sessions. They are responsible for providing assistance and positive feedback to the players during the sessions. Baseball or coaching experience is not required.
Each player receives a Lakeville shirt and Lakeville cap, which they keep. The players only need to bring a baseball glove. They will be doing a LOT of running so baseball sliding pants are not a bad idea. All other equipment (bats, helmets, baseballs, etc.) will be provided.
Snacks are provided by parents of each team on a rotating basis. Snacks include a drink and a snack.
A participation award is given to each player at the end of the season.
There are several special events planned for Rookie Camp each year. These include LBA Opening Day, Rookie Camp Parade Day, and Rookie Camp Marathon. These special events are meant to be enjoyed by the players, parents, siblings and friends.
LBA Opening/Picture Day will be held on Saturday, April 27th at CMS. Team photographs will be scheduled throughout the day.
On any Monday night when the weather forecast is over 70°, bring your squirt guns to Rookie Camp. We use them to cool off the players (and parents). Besides being a lot of fun, it helps insure none of our players get too hot during the session.
